New Resource: Gale Research in Context
This year Pioneer Library has added several Gale Research Databases to their line-up of available databases to help with homework. Ask the librarian for the home user name and access for this year. You can access any of the resources at: http://pioneer.uen.org/k12/ Here is a screen shot of the Research in Context for Grades 6 to 8. There are also databases for K-6 and for 9-12 grades as well. Students can sign in using their Google account if they want to bookmark pages for research. End of Year Video 2014
Check out the link to the End of Year Video from last year. It was lots of fun to make: End of Year Video It took a lot of time and effort from students to put this together. Everybody did a great job! Read some 2014 picture books to a class of first graders. Their favorite for Mock Caldecott and mine as well was Froodle by Antoinette Portis Our honor award winner was: The Hug Machine by Scott Campbell If you’re interested in learning more about young people’s contributions to the Civil Rights Movement I would suggest reading the book: We’ve Got a Job: The 1963 Birmingham Children’s March. It describes the young people of Birmingham, Alabama’s struggles against segregation in the South. It combines research with interviews of protesters. For more books about the Civil Rights movement check out the school library display. Also you can learn more about it from the excellent documentary Eyes on the Prize from PBS. For clips and other resources check out the website PBS Eyes on the Prize.
